Smart Weigh DVS150 Digital Vanity / Bathroom Scale
This is one of the better looking and more accurate bathroom scales that I have come across. It is very simply and elegantly designed, with a single tempered glass plate making up most of the scale. When I first saw it I was concerned that the glass would not be strong enough to withstand a heavy load that’s applied to it, but all of my fears were misplaced. The scale activates by just standing on top of it, which makes it much more convenient than some other digital scales that I’ve tried. However, it seems that the applied weight needs to reach certain threshold before the scale turns on – the scale was largely insensitive to our toddler. Nonetheless, by “priming” the scale with a heavier object (i.e. by my stepping for a moment on top of it) it’s easy to overcome this issue.
In order to test the accuracy of this scale I used two weight lifting dumbbells – one twenty pound dumbbell, and one forty pound dumbbell. The scale showed 20.0 pounds in the first instance and 40.2 in the second. This compares favorably to 20.4 lb and 40.4 lb readings made with my Tanita digital scale. I was also able to accurately measure a piece of luggage that I traveled with on an airplane. Overall, this has been probably the most accurate bathroom scales that I have come across. No bathroom scale is as accurate as the scales you’ll find at your doctor’s office, but for simple daily measurements this one comes as close to that ideal as you could reasonably expect.
