Vornado AC300 True HEPA Air Purifier

Screen Shot 2014-03-20 at 10.29.52 AMA couple of years ago we finally got an air purifier because we’ve been increasingly concerned about the quality of air in our house. Where we live the outside weather is either too humid (most of summer) or too cold (winter) for us to open up our windows for much of the year. I’ve upgraded our AC filter to the finest one available, but I still wanted additional air purification capabilities directly in the areas where we stay/work. Our first air purifier was a model made by Hoover, and we were extremely pleased with it. This Vornado purifier also works great, and in terms of air quality I am about as pleased with both of them.

In terms of the effectiveness of the purification, I am not able to provide an objective measure. I certainly feel that the purifier is working, and when either my wife or I come home from being away all day we notice a marked difference in how the air feels at home. It feels like the air in the fancy upscale stores.

The purifier is powerful enough to purify the air in a large room, but it’s not meant to be the whole-house purifier. However, despite its largish size it is fairly portable and I’ve found using it in several rooms in the course of the day. One day we may invest in couple more of these for the purposes of covering the entire house, but in the meanwhile carrying one purifier around works just fine for our needs.

The LED panel on the top has several different indicators, all of which tend to be pretty bright. This is actually a downside for us. We like to keep this purifier in our bedroom, and the lights are too bright and they make it hard to fall asleep. I wish there were a way to somehow turn them off. As it is, I put one of my folded T-shirts on top. This solution works, but it’s far from being elegant.

At the highest settings the purifier can also be pretty noise, so you wouldn’t want it to be working at that level if you are trying to sleep.

I haven’t used this air purifier long enough that I need to replace the filter. From what I’ve gathered from other reviewers and the videos and images I’ve seen it seems that this is a pretty straightforward process. I will say more about it when I get a chance to check these things out.

Overall, we are extremely pleased with this purifier, and as mentioned earlier we might invest in couple more of these in the upcoming years. Highly recommended.
