Apple Buys Topsy

Screen Shot 2013-12-05 at 2.22.31 PMOne of the biggish Tech news stories this week is Apple’s purchase of Twitter Analytics company Topsy. Apple has been increasingly active lately with purchases of small companies, indicating that they are much more willing to invest in products and services that were not developed in-house. This also seems to be Apple’s first serious foray into the social media space. (The ill-fated Ping service always seemed like an half-baked afterthought.) It still doesn’t look like Apple is interested in developing its own social networking features, but it’s definitely interested in tapping into the information that can be gleaned from the already existing social media interactions and posts.
