Zhiboli The First Global 500 Lumens multi-function Rechargeable Bike Light

Screen Shot 2015-04-02 at 3.01.27 PMBike lights have come a long way since I’ve used my bike as the primary mode of transportation during my college days. This versatile and well made bike light is one of the most interesting such “fusion” devices that I’ve come across. It showcases all the simple improvement to this line of simple products that make it a much more useful and convenient gadget.

LED light. This is probably the single biggest improvement over the old incandescent light bulbs, and one that has made all of the other improvements possible. LED lights are very small, last long, and consume only a fraction of the power while giving off incredibly bright and steady light.

Rechargeable battery. This I think is a wonderful feature. Gone are the days of fiddling with batteries, rechargeable or otherwise. You just take this light off, connect it to the included charger, and after a few of hours of charging you are ready to go. I have not tested how long does a single charge last yet, but from my experience with LED lights in general I can assume it will take me weeks of regular use before I need recharging. Furthermore, you can use the internal battery as a power bank that charges your other small electronic devices.

The little external bluetooth speaker is a fun little accessory to have on a bike ride. It is relatively light, compact, and it attaches to your handlebar very easily. It is also easy to pair it up with your smartphone – my iPhone was able to recognize it immediately, and I did not have any trouble maintaining the connection for the duration of my bike rides.

The quality of sound coming out of this speaker was OK. It’s loud enough for my purposes, and it works well for casual outdoors listening while engaging in another activity. However, it’s not exactly an audiophile-grade equipment.

The advantage of having an external speaker while doing outdoor activities over wearing the headphones is that a speaker allows for most of the background noise to still reach you, which is a great safety consideration. I have never used headphones while biking for precisely this reason, and thanks to this small speaker I feel I can finally indulge in listening to some music while biking. The downside to the speaker is that people around you can also hear your music, which could potentially be annoying. Fortunately, the speaker is small enough and not too loud, so the annoyances would generally be minor.

Overall, I am pretty happy with this bike light, and would recommend it to people who want to add some music to their biking activities, or avail of any of its other special features.
