XCSOURCE Super 7in1 Phone Camera Kit

Screen Shot 2015-02-16 at 12.32.12 PMThis is a very versatile and useful kit for your smartphone photography needs. It features almost all the add-ons for your smartphone that you may find useful. It’s not the best made such kit that you’ll find around, but it’s definitely worth the low price.

The lightweight and well designed extender pole/monopod has so far helped me make several very interesting and cool shots. The pole is made of well machined aluminum alloy. It is very lightweight and compact, so it’s very easy to carry around. In its completely folded state it can fit inside a small camera bag, so it’s a very convenient photography accessory to have – you don’t have to debate too hard weather to take it with you. The pole consists of four extendable parts, and they can be adjusted so they extend incrementally from the shortest setting to the longest.

I was able to use the included mount with an iPhone 5S and Galaxy S3, and both of them fit in easily and securely, even with the added bulky cases. The mount attached to a couple of my tripods and was fastened there very firmly. The only issue that I have with this mount is that there is no big rubberized surface on its top, so my phones are directly clamped with the metal holders. This is probably not the nicest way to clamp an expensive phone, but fortunately so far I did not have any major issues with it. I would just recommend always using your phone’s case with this mount.

The kit includes a very nice fun small smartphone lens kit. Smartphone cameras are getting better every day, but there are still limited in terms of their ability to take varied kinds of photographs. There are some really nice and fancy ad-on camera kits out there, but they tend to be very expensive. This kit allows you to experiment with additional camera lenses without having to invest a lot of money. However, you do get what you pay for: the kit feels very cheap and plasticky, and the lenses have a lot of aberration. I do like that this is a clip-on kit, and it’s very easy to use and carry with you. It’s a nice additoion to any amature smart photographer’s tool kit.

The tripod is not the most versatile tripod that you will come around, but at its price point and for limited functions it is still a great deal. I’ve used mine primarily with a small smartphone mount, and it has worked perfectly. The tripod works the best when its legs are not extended at all, since it doesn’t have to be adjusted. The tripod is built out of anodized aluminum and feels pretty sturdy. In terms of build materials it’s certainly an improvement over the plastic tripods that I otherwise use. However, in terms of flexibility and convenience I’d recommend a gorilla pod.

Overall, this is a nice kit that can serve its purposes, as long as you don’t expect too much out of it.
