Work Smarter with Twitter and HootSuite

Screen Shot 2013-07-04 at 11.30.43 AMTwitter is one of the most prominent social networks these days. Even though at the face of it it seems like a very restricted and limited online communication tool (all posts are restricted to 140 characters), it has a lot of flexibility and power incorporated into this austere interface.

Even though I am a regular Twitter user I am still only scratching the surface of what this social network can do for me. I strive to improve my online social media and marketing skills, and have read several good resources on this topic. Work Smarter with Twitter and HootSuite is probably one of the better-written and more resourceful books on this subject, especially considering its size. It’s a quick read – it will take you less than an hour to go through it. It doesn’t spend too much time on the basics, but almost immediately goes into some of the more advanced topics – strategies of getting the best kind of information and effect from your Tweeting experience. And this is where HootSuite comes in. This powerful app allows you to be much more effective and productive with your Twitter. However, aside from the very basic account HootSuit is not free and it comes with some pretty pricey subscription plans. In other words, you need to be really into Twitter in order for some of those plans to be worth your while. I would have liked if this short e-book were more explicit about this.

Overall, I like this books unobtrusive writing style. It’s a handy resource and introduction to Twitter, albeit not as resourceful as some of the other books in this series. Nonetheless, if you are trying to make the most out of Twitter this ebook will provide you with plenty of useful advice.
