Virtual Reality Google Cardboard

Screen Shot 2014-08-12 at 3.29.47 PMEver since I heard of Google Cardboard I was completely fascinated by this incredible simple device. Using just regular cardboard and a few simple off-the-shelf add-ons you can turn your ordinary Android phone into a very credible pair of virtual reality goggles. So I finally got a chance to play with one of these contraptions, and the experience has totally lived up to my expectations. There are quite a few virtual reality apps available right now on Google Play, and as long as you don’t expect a top-level holodeck experience you will be really amazed. There are a couple of things to keep in mind though:

1. You should ideally have the latest generation or the one before it high-end Android phone. Something like Galaxy S4 or S5 for instance. I tried using it with Galaxy S3, and even though it worked, the experience was not as smooth as I would have liked and the app kept crashing.

2. Folding of this cardboard set is pretty straightforward, but it’s not completely intuitive. What I mean by that is that there is really only one way to fold it, you don’t need any tools to do it, but the exact 3D arrangement can be a bit tricky.

Overall I am really pleased with this little set. It’s very well (for a piece of cardboard that is), and it can bring you a lot of fun. I certainly recommend it.
