Toshiba Canvio 1.0 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive – HDTC610XK3B1 – Product Review

This is a very stylish and compact hard drive that is ideal for people who travel a lot and need their data wherever they are, or for sharing large files between different computers. I got this HDD primarily for keeping my photos, videos, and other homemade media files in one place. It has enough capacity to hold years worth of photos, and then some. I’ve used it with my MacBook Air, Windows 7 and Windows Home Server machines, and it worked with all of them without a hitch. I don’t have any computers that support USB 3.0, but for my purposes (one-time backup and occasional access to my photos and videos) USB 2.0 proved to be more than adequate. However, if you intend to use it with the larger files (really big videos) or move files back and forth frequently, then you should definitely use this HDD with a USB 3.0 enabled computer.

The HDD has a very elegant design, and in terms of its physical dimensions it slightly resembles an oversized smartphone. If you need to carry it around a lot, then I recommend that you get a sturdy and durable case for it, such as Case Logic QHDC-101 Portable EVA Hard Drive Case. All in all, I am extremely satisfied with this product. If you don’t need it immediately though, I would recommend waiting for it to go on sale – hard drive prices tend to fluctuate a lot.
