The New iPhone Countdown
So we finally have a date – sort of. Like most other things Apple related, we have to rely on the “people in the know” to get the info on the probably date of the next major product launch event. Such events now come with a decent dose of regularity, and ever since the Asian Tsunami pushed the launch of iPhone 4S from the previously regular June event into the Fall, early September has become the de-facto anticipated new iPhone launch date. According to All Things D, this year’s event is scheduled for September 10th.
Over the years iPhone has become Apple’s #1 product, and the fortunes of the company have come to increasingly depend on the adoption rate of iPhones. The smartphone market has however matured, and there are probably very few major innovation in the offing in the upcoming years. Despite Apple’s best attempt to curtail its rivals, mostly through legal actions involving patent laws, iPhone and iPad are increasingly becoming seen as luxurious niche products. Incredibly profitable niche products, but it is likely that Apple will never dominate the market in this category again. Therefore there is an increasing pressure on Apple to bring out products that are flawlessly designed and worth all the consumer loyalty that they demand.
