Smart Weigh ZIP600 Ultra Slim Digital Pocket Scale with Counting Feature

Screen Shot 2013-12-08 at 3.53.23 PMThis is a very neatly, simply and elegantly designed little scale that is great for measuring small weights in an on-the-go situations. It’s approximately the size of an iPhone, albeit a bit thicker. It can measure weights of up to 600 g in one tenth (0.1) of a gram increments. The scale runs on two AAA batteries (included), features a rectangular-sided measuring area, four different function buttons, and a small oval-shaped screen. It also has a transparent plastic cover and a soft faux-leather carrying case. Weights can be measured in six different kinds of units: g, oz, ozt (troy ounces), dwt (pennyweight), ct (carat), and gn (grain). The scale also features an interesting and novel (at least to me) function of being able to count the number of (same) items based on the reference weight of 25, 50, 75 or 100 items of the same kind. This could be a very easy way of counting coins or other small items that come in large quantities of same predetermined sizes.

When it comes to accuracy, I am generally pleased with this scale. In order to test it I had used two small 10 g test weights from another high precision scale that I own. ZIP600 turned to be a bit finicky, sometimes reading 9.9 g, but more often than not 10.0 g. I think the precise value will depend on where you place the scale – I’d strongly recommend using *very* flat, solid surfaces.

The scale also comes with a small booklet which includes the setup guide and the warranty registration information.

This small scale can come in handy with other small hobby projects. (I have started using it with the product prototypes that I am building.) It could also be useful for accurately measuring medications and other quantities where high precision is of the essence. If you are looking for an even more accurate scale than this one, then I would recommend checking out the JDS20 jewelery scale from the same manufacturer.
