Smart Weigh SWS1KG Elite Digital Pocket Scale

Screen Shot 2013-12-24 at 10.40.15 AMThis is a very neatly, simply and elegantly designed little scale that is great for measuring small weights in an on-the-go situations. It’s about twice as thick as iPhone 5, and a bit longer. It features a hinged cover that shuts completely and tightly. The scale is overall very well built and is capable of sustaining all sorts of impacts and scratching when completely closed.

It can measure weights of up to 1000 g (2.2 lbs) in one tenth (0.1) of a gram increments. The scale runs on two AAA batteries (included), features a rectangular-sided measuring area which covers about 70% of the scale, and two different function buttons in addition to the on/off button. Weights can be measured in six different kinds of units: g, oz, ozt (troy ounces), dwt (pennyweight), ct (carat), and gn (grain).

When it comes to accuracy, I am generally pleased with this scale. In order to test it I had used two small 10 g test weights from another high precision scale that I own. SWS1KG turned to be a bit finicky, sometimes reading 9.9 g, but more often than not 10.0 g. I think the precise value will depend on where you place the scale – I’d strongly recommend using a *very* flat, solid surfaces.

The scale also comes with a small booklet which includes the setup guide and the warranty registration information.

This small scale can come in handy with small hobby projects. (I have started using it with the product prototypes that I am building.) It could also be useful for accurately measuring medications and other quantities where high precision is of the essence. If you are looking for an even more accurate scale than this one, then I would recommend checking out the JDS20 jewelry scale from the same manufacturer.

This is probably as big of a “pocket” scale as it would be feasible to have. Anything bigger than this would be considered a desk scale. If you are looking for a pocket scale then this would be a very reliable, well-made and affordable option.
