Smart Weigh Contemporary Series Digital Vanity / Bathroom Scale

Screen Shot 2013-12-06 at 11.04.51 AMThis is one of the better looking and more accurate bathroom scales that I have come across. It is very simply and elegantly designed, with a single tempered glass plate making up most of the scale and a really prominent large 4.3″ LCD screen. The tempered glass top looks very thick and feels sturdy and break-resistant. The scale activates by just standing on top of it, which makes it much more convenient than some other digital scales that I’ve tried. The scale is fairly sensitive to the applied weight, and it activates even when a very slight pressure is applied to the top.

In order to test the accuracy of this scale I used two weight lifting dumbbells – one twenty pound dumbbell, and one forty pound dumbbell. The scale showed 20.0 pounds in the first instance and 40.2 in the second. This compares favorably to 20.4 lb and 40.4 lb readings made with my Tanita digital scale. I was also able to accurately measure a piece of luggage that I traveled with on an airplane. Overall, this has been probably the most accurate bathroom scales that I have come across. No bathroom scale is as accurate as the scales you’ll find at your doctor’s office, but for simple daily measurements this one comes as close to that ideal as you could reasonably expect.

One of the most appealing features of this scale is its nice big, blue-backlit LCD screen. It makes the readings from the scale very easy to observe, and you don’t need to squint in order to see the measured numbers. The scale measures weight in three different sets of units – lb, kg, and st, which can be switched on with a simple press of a button on the back. The scale runs on 4 AAA batteries, which are included with the package. I am not sure how long the batteries will last, but if the other scales that I’ve used over the years are anything to go by then I would expect several years worth of uninterrupted moderate use.
