Sharp HO EL-233S Standard Function Calculator

Screen Shot 2013-12-15 at 10.31.00 AMNowadays when all of us have a very powerful calculator (and then some) as an integral part of our smartphones, as well as part of all the PC operating systems out there, it would seem that the simple old-fashioned calculators like this one would have completely disappeared. However, I’ve found myself often enough in situations where I need a very simple straightforward calculations done quickly, and fumbling through two or three screens on my iPhone is more annoying than it should be. So I finally decided to get another one of these simple old-fashioned calculators.

There is not much that I can say about this calculator per se. If you’ve used any one of these, then that’s pretty much how well this one works as well. It is smaller than I had thought at first when I ordered it, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing – it makes it easier to use and hold with one hand, and it also makes it very portable. The buttons are very soft and rubbery, not exactly my favorite. The LCD screen is OK – clear and visible enough for most purposes. It was also very cheap – just over $3 when I got it on Amazon. It’s a worthwhile investment, but nothing spectacular.
