Onite Quick Spare Universal Wall Battery Charger with USB Output Port

Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 10.31.49 AMOne of the good things about Android phones is that their batteries are easily replaceable. So, say, you can get extra batteries for a long trip, and replace them when you need them without having to wait for a long time for them to charge. However, there doesn’t seem to be much consistency in terms of the size and shape of these internal batteries, either from different manufacturers or from the same manufacturer for different edition of their phone. In case you switch your phone, or upgrade it to a new and different edition, you would need to upgrade all of your chargers as well. This seems to be the issue that Onite charger is trying to address. It is a flexible charger that is adjustable and can be used with a variety of internal batteries. However, it is not the most intuitive device to figure out how to use, but fortunately I managed to get it to work without breaking or destroying anything.

The cradle of this charger consists of an adjustable slot that can be widened enough to take in almost any width battery. It also has two movable pins which can be adjusted so that they are pressing against the charging ports. The charger also features a USB port for charging of another device while your battery is being charged, and a small LED light which indicates the charging progress – red while still charging, blue once charging is finished. It took me a few hours to charge my Galaxy S3 battery, along with my Kindle paperwhite. So the charger works, more or less, as advertised.

This charger doesn’t exactly exude high manufacturing quality or durability. I’ve only had it for about a week, and so far have not had any complaints. However, only time will tell how well it holds up in the long run.

If you anticipate changing your smartphone often, especially from one manufacturer or another, then this might be a very viable battery charging option for you. Otherwise, I would recommend that you look into one of the fixed charging cradles instead.
