My Pinterest – Book Review

Screen Shot 2013-08-17 at 3.09.46 PMPinterest is one of the latest hit social networks. It has taken the concept of a scrapbook and updated it for the super-social always-online 21st century world. Its deceptively simple format is very appealing, and it has helped Pinterest achieve a level of cult following in certain circles. However, its simple interface belies the power and versatility that this social site can provide.

My Pinterest” is an introductory book that aims to explain Pinterest to a wide spectrum of readers and users of this site. Its aimed at novices, but it will also appeal to the more experienced users who want to make the most out of this site. The book is written in an extremely accessible and to-the-point style, and from the very outset it takes you straight to the actual demonstrations of how to achieve certain actions on Pinterest. It helps you navigate the plethora of settings and adjustment options, and tries to make sense of them. This is in fact one of the book’s greatest strengths – it is not just a bag of tricks, but also a clear and lucid explanation of the rationale behind every Pinterest design feature. The book can also help you with choosing the right kind of content that you would want to share on Pinterest, and it helps you understand its myriad sharing and privacy options. However, keep in mind that Pinterest, just like all the other popular online destinations, is constantly evolving so it’s very likely that some of the material covered in this book might be different from your actual experience. In all such cases try using common sense, or perhaps search for the additional info online.

I also enjoyed the format of the book. The book is large, well presented, and easily navigable. The illustrations and screenshots are fairly large and very clear and they help to illustrate all the relevant material. It is a very intuitive guide for a very intuitive device.
