Melissa & Doug Classic Wooden Abacus
I am a big fan of all of Melissa & Doug classic wood toys. They are a lot of fun, easy to use, and they feature a simple and timeless design. All of those features are certainly true of this abacus. I got it for my toddler since he enjoys counting and playing with movable objects and toys. It is a great learning toy, something that can make learning a lot of fun and an amusing game. It may be a bit limited for older kids who are learning more advanced addition and subtraction, but for a total beginner it is more than adequate.
I’ve only owned this abacus for a few weeks, but so far it seems pretty sturdy. It has, after all, survived all sorts of maltreatments by a very active toddler. Highly recommended.

Bojan Tunguz was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he and his family fled during the civil war for the neighboring Croatia. Over the past two decades he has studied, lived and worked in the United States. He is a theoretical physicist with degrees from Stanford and University of Illinois.
