Jabra SPEAK410 USB Speakerphone for Skype, Lync and other VoIP calls – Product Review

I don’t really use Skype all that much for teleconferencing, and on a few occasions that I did my computer’s speakers and microphone had been quite adequate. However, if you need to teleconference for your work on a regular basis, or are just looking for a more professional teleconferencing experience, then this Jabra Speakerphone might be the right kind of solution for you.

This speakerphone is intended for Windows PCs and the Mac use is not supported. However, you can still use it with Macs – with some restrictions. I discovered that when you use it with Skype for Mac a few buttons don’t work.

The speakerphone comes with a nice carrying case. This, combined with the fact that it’s very small in size, makes it a very portable speakerphone. If you travel a lot for your work, then this will be a very convenient gadget for all of your remote meeting needs.

The sound quality is pretty good. While using it for teleconferencing I didn’t notice any distortions. However, I am pretty happy with the “regular” quality of Skype calls to begin with, so unless this device managed to fail in some significant ways I’d still be pretty satisfied. This speakerphone can also double as an external computer speakers, but you won’t get too much of an enhancement as compared to the stand-alone external speakers. Nonetheless, if you are traveling and want to keep the amount of gear that you lug along to a minimum this would be a decent alternative.

I would have liked if this speakerphone had Bluetooth connectivity instead of the USB kind. It would have reduced the wire clutter to a minimum, and would have made this a completely portable device.

I also think that this speakerphone is overpriced. I’ve seen many other external computer microphones/speakers that can be purchased for a combined price of half of what Jabra’s product costs. Sure, there might be some tradeoffs, but if you are not concerned with having all of your teleconferencing requirements fulfilled by a single integrated device, then you might want to check some other options as well.
