Ivation ERSDM18 Mini Dehumidifier

Screen Shot 2015-02-19 at 11.34.58 AMI really hate humidity, and try to rid myself of it any way I can. Where I live summers can be really hot and oppressively humid, so I tend to spend most of my time indoors in well air conditioned areas. Even so, I still end up dealing with a fair amount of humidity.

I have used several air purifiers and dehumidifiers over the years. Ones that make the biggest difference are the large electro-mechanical ones that can really whisk the moisture out of air, bucketful at a time. Those are good for large rooms and other large areas. Their downsides are that they are noisy, generate a lot of heat, require a lot of electricity to operate, and require frequent emptying of the water collection bucket.

For smaller areas and in somewhat lower humidity a smaller, more energy efficient dehumidifier like this one is an ideal device to use. It is really small, can be installed almost anywhere, and it requires very small amount of  electricity for continuous operation. It whisks moisture out of the air using the very efficient and low power method that doesn’t generate too much heat or noise. It still has a small fan, but its buzz is incomparably lower than for most large electro-mechanical dehumidifiers.

This unit is ideal for bathrooms, small rooms, storage areas, small sheds, or even for large walk-in closets. We’ve used it in one of our bathrooms and noticed the difference in air quality after just a day or two of use. The best of all, the bathroom did not smell mildly musty any more.

The dehumidifier looks very nicely designed and it feels pretty sturdy. I don’t expect it will see any extreme use in the upcoming years, but it’s reassuring that it doesn’t look like a product that will need a replacement in the near future. Especially since it doesn’t have many moving parts. I also believe that it’s pretty reasonably priced for this kind of product. Highly recommended.
