Inateck 2.5 Inch USB 3.0 Hard Drive Disk External Enclosure

Screen Shot 2013-12-27 at 11.51.18 AMI have recently upgraded my Mac Mini to a larger internal HD. The old HD was still perfectly functional, and contained a lot of my very valuable data and info, and was in effect a good backup. In order to access it, however, I had to use HD docking stations. They were effective, but this was a bit of a clumsy solution. That’s why I was really happy to try out this Inateck enclosure.

The enclosure looks and feels pretty solidly built. The top slides backward to reveal the inner docking ports, and the 2.5″ HDD snaps into place smoothly and securely. The enclosure has been optimized for an SSD, but I didn’t have any issues with using it with my old fashioned spinning HD. The enclosure is slightly bigger than my stand-alone Toshiba external HD, but that’s to be expected – Toshiba’s design was optimized for the purpose of not having to be opened and for a very specific HD. The enclosure connects to the computer via the included USB 3 cable. The enclosure is entirely bus-powered, which is standard for external 2.5 inch HDs. The enclosure has a small on/off switch which can come in handy, especially if it’s attached to a laptop with limited power.

I’ve tested this enclosure with moth my Mac Mini and HP laptops, and in both cases it was recognized and mounted properly. The transfer rates were on par with other USB 3 devices that I’ve tested.

Overall, a really good product that I would recommend to anyone looking for a reliable and well-built 2.5 inch HD enclosure.
