iDsonix iDPH35 Anti-Static Hard Drive Protection Box for 3.5 Inch HDD Storage

Screen Shot 2013-10-16 at 11.40.01 AMOver the years I’ve accumulated several internal hard drives that are just languishing in one of my drawers. They are perfectly good hard drives, but they have become too small for today’s computer needs, and have been replaced with more capacious drives. Nonetheless, I like to keep them around for backup or other purposes. I did wish for a while to be able to store them more properly, and when I came across these HD protection boxes I was eager to try them out.

The boxes are very light and convenient. Getting a 3.5″ drive into them and getting it out is a breeze. The drive fits in very snuggly and securely. However, I do have a couple issues with these boxes. I do wish they came with sticky labels or some other convenient way of labeling their content. More importantly, I am not impressed with the build quality of these boxes. The weak quality is particularly noticeable at the hinges – they are very, very weak, and will most likely become completely detached after several openings and closings. I would have preferred that these boxes came with caps that allows them to be completely detached to begin with – that would provide a much more robust closing mechanism.

Overall, this is a pretty decent storage solution for 3.5″ internal hard drives. However, I would not recommend them to IT professionals and others who need to access these drives frequently – the build quality of these boxes is not adequate for heavy use.
