Hoover Air Purifier with TiO2 Technology – WH10600 – Product Review

I finally got an air purifier because I’ve been increasingly concerned with the quality of air in our house. Where we live the outside weather is either too humid (most of summer) or too cold (winter) for us to open up our windows for much of the year. I’ve upgraded our AC filter to the finest one available, but I still wanted additional air purification capabilities directly in the areas where we stay/work. After looking into several models, and considering their price and features, I’ve settled on this air purifier from Hoover. So far I have been really pleased with it.

The purifier comes with several settings, depending on how much of the purification you want, whether you just want filtration or air ionization, and whether you want continuous or auto purification. Initially I’ve used almost exclusively the continuous purification, but after a few days of this decided that automatic works almost as well. The automatic feature is based on the internal sensors and their assessment of the air quality. I am not sure how accurate these sensors are, and sometimes just opening a door or passing by them can cause them to have dramatically different readings. Overall, though, it looks like they are roughly on par with my own rough estimate of how fresh the air feels in the room.

As for the effectiveness of the purification, again, I am not able to provide an objective measure. I certainly feel that the purifier is working, and when either my wife or I come home from being away all day we notice a marked difference in how the air feels at home. It feels like the air in the fancy upscale stores.

In addition to filtering we turn on the ionization of air for additional “scrubbing” action. From what I’ve read the previous generations of air purifiers were plagued by the creation of ozone during this process, but it is my understanding that the Hoover purifier does not produce any of that potentially harmful gas.

The purifier is powerful enough to purify the air in a large room, but it’s not meant to be the whole-house purifier. However, despite its largish size it is fairly portable and I’ve found using it in several rooms in the course of the day. One day we may invest in couple more of these for the purposes of covering the entire house, but in the meanwhile carrying one purifier around works just fine for our needs.

The LED panel on the top has several different indicators, all of which tend to be pretty bright. This is actually a downside for us. We like to keep this purifier in our bedroom, and the lights are too bright and they make it hard to fall asleep. I wish there were a way to somehow turn them off. As it is, I put one of my folded T-shirts on top. This solution works, but it’s far from being elegant.

At the highest settings the purifier can also be pretty noise, so you wouldn’t want it to be working at that level if you are trying to sleep.

The purifier comes with a remote control. This can be useful for adjusting it from your bed, but I haven’t found much use for it so far.

I haven’t used this air purifier long enough so that its blades need cleaning, or that I need to replace the filter. From what’ve gathered form other reviewers and the videos and images I’ve seen it seems that this is a pretty straightforward process. I will say more about it when I get a chance to check these things out.

Overall, we are extremely pleased with this purifier, and as mentioned earlier we might invest in couple more of these in the upcoming years. Highly recommended.
