HON Lota Mid-Back Work Chair with Mesh Back and Polished Aluminum Base – Product Review

I’ve tried several office chairs for my home office over the years, and have in general had mixed results. Some of the cheaper ones tend to lose the seat support rather quickly, and don’t feel comfortable enough for extended hours of sitting. The higher end ones seem very well designed and comfortable, but most of them are well beyond my budget. So I was really excited to try out the HON chair, and so far my impressions have been largely positive. It has become the office chair of choice for me. Here are some of my observations.

**** Assembly ****

The chair I got initially didn’t come with the hardware kit necessary for assembly, but the representative from the company sent one to me quickly. The chair didn’t have too many parts that needed to be assembled together, but it did require some dexterity and experience in working with small tools. The base of the chair in particular is pretty heavy and you may want to be careful about how you handle it. Other than that, I don’t have any other special caveats regarding the assembly – it was relatively straightforward and painless.

**** Build Quality ****

This is a very sturdy chair and it seems capable of handling years of regular use, accidental abuse and rough handling. This chair is particularly well suited for more public office environment, or the places where there is a high-volume use of office equipment. Some parts of the chair (like the arm rests and handles) seem a bit on the cheap side of quality, but these are not that crucial for the chair’s basic functionality. I would have also preferred a leather or faux leather cover for the seat area.

**** Features ****

This chair allows you to rotate the seat, move, and adjust the seat hight, back and arm rests. All of these features virtually guarantee that it will be possible to use this chair with most body types and sitting arrangements.

**** Comfort ****

The chair is fairly comfortable, although the seat area is really hard. I could not sit on it comfortably for too long, and had to use an additional cushion. With the cushion it was much more confortable. The arm rests could have also been made out of some softer material.

**** Conclusion ****

Overall, this is a solid workmanlike office chair. It more than adequately serves its purpose, but I wish it were more comfortable to sit in in its own right.
