Gogogu Multifunction Digital Pocket 3D Pedometer With 30 Day Memory

Screen Shot 2014-06-17 at 3.01.03 PMI used to use pedometers a lot years ago, but stopped at some point and never went back to them. Which is a shame, since pedometers are some of the simplest and easiest to use activity tracking tools. When I exercise outdoors I use my iPhone’s GPS to give me an idea of the total amount of distance I’ve covered, but GPS doesn’t work well for short trips or daily indoor activities. In recent years I have been giving a serious thought to the fancy wireless activity monitors (such as FitBit for instance), but realized that in terms of accuracy they are no better than the small inexpensive pedometers.

This is a very well built and easy to use pedometer. The setup is a bit counterintuitive, and the poorly written instructions don’t help. However, once you start using it the pedometer really works well. It is pretty accurate, something that I’ve tested against my known covered distance on the treadmill. It can be used indoors and outdoors. One major shortcoming, though, is that it mistakenly keeps track of your “activity” even when you are driving. All of the minute bumps on the road as you drive are probably counted as steps. Short of taking the battery out I don’t know of a good way of shutting this “feature” off.

The pedometer is very well built and it seems durable. It is a nice addition to my activity monitoring arsenal, but I am still to find that one perfect tool that tracks all of my activities simply and accurately. However, for the price this pedometer is a pretty good device to have around.
