GE LED11DA19RVL/TP Light Bulb

DispatcherI’ve been holding off on the LED lighting revolution for a while, since I really didn’t like the quality of light from some early products that I tested. Most of the early light bulbs were also very expensive ($30 – $40), so they really didn’t seem like a worthwhile investment. However, the technology has come a long way while dropping dramatically in price, and some of the recent products are every bit as pleasing to the eye as the familiar incandescent light bulbs.

This GE 11 Watt reveal warm LED light bulb gives off warm white light that is very sharp and well defined. It even feels brighter than the equivalently rated incandescent light bulb. The bulb seems really well made and it fit all the “regular” light bulb sockets perfectly. This is probably one of this light bulbs strongest selling points – it will probably be completely compatible with all of your current lighting fixtures. However, there are a few differences that might cause problems with a few overly constrained lamps and light fixtures:

1. This light bulb does not emit any light in the direction of the bottom 1/5 of its head, right next to the light bulb’s base. I could not perceive any difference in the amount and distribution of the emitted light due to this, but there might be some circumstances/applications where this could be an issue.

2. The lightbulb is thicker than the regular light bulb right next to its base.

3. The lightbulb is much heavier than your regular incandescent light. If you have a small side lamp or a desk lamp that has been designed with the traditional light bulb in consideration this might be an issue.

I have not used this light bulb long enough to be able to ascertain how much of a saving it really is. I have no reason not to believe that the savings can be substantial, and some of the estimates are given in the small pamphlet that comes with this light bulb. One of the main reasons I like the LED light bulbs is the fact that they don’t need to be replaced very often – the stated lifespan for this light bulb is almost 14 years. I can certainly get used to not having to replace the light bulbs in my house all that often.

Overall, this is a great light that will probably save you some time and money over the years that you own it. Highly recommended.
