Dolica 60″ Professional Traveler Tripod with Ball Head – Max load 13.2 lbs, Max. Height 60″, Folds to 15″ – Product Review

Over the years I’ve used many tripods and monopods for my personal photography needs. They have ranged from small foldable Gorilla pods, to the full-length tripods. Out of all of these Dolica’s tripod is, by far, the most solidly built and professional looking. I really enjoyed using it, and would recommend it as a travel tripod of choice. Here are some of its features.

**** Design and Build ****

This is very elegant-looking and solidly built tripod. Most of the body is built out of an aluminum alloy, with rubberized leg twists and support pads. The tripod weighs about three pounds, and it feels light and easy to carry.

**** Functionality ****

This is one of the most versatile tripods that I have come across, especially in this form factor. Each of the three legs is made out of five parts, which can be extended, and shortened using the twist locks. Twist locks are easy to use, and they make it very convenient to adjust the exact angle and extent of the tripod. Each one of the legs can be configured into three different configurations thanks to the angle locks.

When the tripod is completely folded it is just 15″ long. The minimum operating height is 18.5″, while its listed maximum operating height is 60″. However, I’ve been able to use it even with a greater extension than that, but for those kinds of shoots you want to be on a smooth flat surface away from any disturbances.

The ball head pivot for the camera is very well built. This is my first ball head tripod, and I am really impressed. Ball allows you the unprecedented precision and adjustment levels for your camera. It is a very nice feature, and one of my favorite things about this tripod.

**** Convenience ****

As mentioned earlier, this tripod can really fit in a very small space. When fully closed it’s even shorter than my monopod! It comes with a carrying bag, which you can carry over your shoulder. It’s also very easy to store in your suitcase, even a small carry-on. The twist locks might need some lubrication after a while, but that will depend on how frequently you get to use it. This is definitely a very convenient tripod to take with you on a trip.

**** Conclusion ****

This is the best tripod I’ve owned. It’s sturdy, convenient, easy to setup, and very easy to carry around. It pulls well above its weight, and it might become the only tripod that I use on a regular basis.
