Dirt Devil BD10045RED AccuCharge 15.6 Volt Hand Vac

When I got interested in a small vacuum cleaner for my car and for odd jobs around my workshop and my house, I first considered taking a look at Dyson’s compact vacuum. We’ve used the “standard” Dyson vacuum cleaner for years, and we’ve been really happy with it. Its consistent suction and bagless design are some of the greatest invention in a household appliance since, well, the invention of vacuum. However, when I discovered the high price of the handheld vacuum (almost on par with some of its larger counterparts), as well as the generally lukewarm reviews, I decided to take a look at the more “conventional” vacuum cleaners. Dirt Devil seemed to combine the best combination of functionality, price, and the ease of use. So far, it has well justified our expectations.

The vacuum is very light and easy to handle. It can be used for quite some time without straining your hand or arm. The suction end has two essential configurations – the wider, more coarse one and the detail cleaning that can be accessed by an easy flip of the crevice tool from its folded-up alignment. The precision crevice tool is capable of reaching most hard to reach corners and crevices. This is one of the main functions that I wanted to use this vacuum for, and so far I’ve been fairly happy.

The disposal of the dust is fairly straightforward – you just open up the vacuum by depressing a large hinge, and then remove the filter that separates the dust from the rest of the vacuum. This takes a step or two more than the Dyson model, and the use of filters inevitably reduces the suction in the long run, but overall this is not too much of a hassle.

The vacuum charges using a small charging cradle. The cradle can be mounted on a wall or some other surface, although I’d not recommend this option – it just doesn’t seem sturdy enough for a long-term use. The vacuum charges fairly quickly, and it seems to have a fairly decent battery life. However, I’ve yet to completely deplete the battery so unfortunately I can’t be more precise on this point.

Overall, this is a fairly effective and functional small vacuum cleaner that gets the job done.
