BESTEK High-powered 8x40mm Binoculars
It’s been many years since I’ve owned a pair of binoculars. I have fond memories of the hunting binoculars that my grandfather gifted me with as a child. I spent many hours playing with those and observing many interesting things in my hometown and the surrounding nature places. In the intervening years most of my experience with optics instruments comes from my use of DSLR cameras and their lenses.
These Bestek binoculars are a pretty decent intro binoculars. they are lightweight, pretty well built, and sturdy. The rubberized body makes them easy to hold and grip, and the focusing dial has the right amount of resistance. The oculars are pretty comfortable against my eyes.
The optics of the binocular is so-so. The magnification is indeed great, but I’ve been having hard time getting things into sharp focus beyond about 100 yards. I suspect that this has something to do with the spherical aberration of the lenses, but I am not 100% sure. I’ve used the binoculars around my neighborhood and in the parks, mostly to try to observe the birds and other animals. The binoculars are good for getting to see the animals, but again there is faint “doubling” of the image if it’s far enough.
The binoculars come with decent rubbery protective caps for all the lenses, a nice carrying case, and a neck strap. They are a pretty decent product for the price, and if you are not too demanding on the image quality they can really come in handy for observing the wildlife or anything else that interests you.
