Belkin Portable Tablet Stage

Screen Shot 2014-08-18 at 3.00.01 PMOne of the main features of the “post PC” era seems to be the gradual replacement of both laptops and desktop computers with tablets. Even though they are still limited in terms of their computing power and versatility of tasks, tablets are slowly but surely becoming the default computing platform. However, one of the main drawbacks of tablets is that their screens are really small and lay pretty low compared to both desktops and even laptops. Hunching over a tiny screen can become really strained after a while, and anything that can help you lead a more productive and less strained life should be considered. Tablet stands/mounts are one such category of accessories, and over they years I’ve come to increasingly appreciate their value. This Belkin stand in particular is one of the best designed and most elegant ones that I’ve come across.

This stand is really easy to use. Because it is pretty hefty, it primarily relies on its own weight to keep the combined tablet-stand setup in its place. You just unfold this stand, set it up in the desired orientation, and plop in your tablet – that’s it! You can start using it without having to fiddle with various knobs and adjustment settings.

The stand looks and feels very sturdy, and my tablet sits securely in it. However, I can see how some of the larger tablet, especially the 12” kinds, could be wobbly when put in the stand. If you have a larger Windows tablet, I would definitely want to test this stand before committing to a purchase. This stand collapses when not in use, which really helps with keeping your desk look less cluttered. It’s very easy to take it with you anywhere you go, but it’s still pretty hefty. It is a very elegant stand and it adds to the aspirationally vcool look of my home office.
