Azio PRISM USB Keyboard with 7 Colorful Backlights (KB507)

Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 6.00.18 PMThis is a very nice keyboard that is very useful for nighttime computer use. Here are some of my main observations.

Pros:

– Very responsive thin “chicklet” keys. I much prefer these to the old style raised keys. This, of course, is a personal preference, but since it this review is based on my opinion, this is what I think a good keyboard ought to be like.

– Full sized keyboard with a lots of room to type.

– Beautiful backlights. Since this is the main selling point of this keyboard, it would have been disastrous if it did not deliver. Fortunately, the backlight is as cool and useful as advertised. The keyboard provides seven different lighting options: Vivid Magenta, Icy Blue, Cobalt Blue, Candy Pink, Crimson Red, Blossom Orange, and Emerald. It also provides the Prism Rainbow lighting option. All of the colors are cool and bright enough to be seen in dark to dimly lit room. I prefer working in a dimly lit room to begin with, so the lighted keyboard is a great bonus. The keyboard works well even with no ambient lighting at all. This is a particularly good keyboards for all the coders out there who like to work well into the the night.

– Easy setup. This is a total plug-and-play keyboard. It is designed for the Windows environment, but it also works with Macs.

– Well built. This is not the flashiest keyboard in terms of design, but this doesn’t bother me. The keyboard overall feels well made and sturdy. I expect to get a lot of milage out of it.

Cons:

– This is an USB keyboard. These days I am largely partial to to Bluetooth keyboards, even for my desktop computers.

– No simple white light. I like the colored lights, and some of them are really great, but I would have also liked if this keyboard featured a simple white backlight.
