Allen Sports Premier 3-Bike Trunk Rack

Screen Shot 2013-11-07 at 3.29.06 PMThis is my second bike trunk rack. I had used a simple one bike rack before, and have overall been very happy with its performance. When I first mounted my bike to the trunk rack I was concerned about it being unstable and exposed, but have since then learned to balance it correctly and nowadays don’t think much about it.

This rack looks and feels fairly sturdy. The main body of the rack is easy to set up as it just snaps into place when unfolded. However, attaching the cables to the trunk can be a bit more challenging, especially when you are doing it for the first time.

This is a relatively compact rack, and even though it’s made for three bikes, two bikes fit fairly snugly. I guess if at least one of your bikes is on the smaller side this rack will work out fine. The rack fits nicely into the trunk, and unless you make big shopping trips on a regular basis you can permanently store it there.

I’ve used the rack on Honda CR-V and have not had any problems with it. The rack fit nicely on the back of my trunk, and was stable throughout the short ride to the park. However, just like with the other rack I have, I would not recommend it for a long cross-country road trip.
