A group of scientists discovers a weird object that has entered the Solar System from a deep space, and which is moving at an astonishing speed towards the Earth. The regularity of its trajectory, as well as some other hints about its behavior, suggest that it must be of an alien origin. A top US military team that has been created for just such eventualities is quickly summoned, and they have to come up with a strategy for dealing with the eventual contact. The visitors, however, are of a quite different nature than anything that we had been preparing from, and their mission – and the gift that they bring with them – can potentially change the human history forever. This realization and the interaction of the aliens with the humans they come in contact with creates unforeseen tensions and conflicts, and these threaten to escalate and endanger both the visitors’ mission as well as the human survival.

This novel falls into the subcategory of “First Contact” genera of Science Fiction. It has its own interesting twists to that premise, and it has all elements of a high-paced thriller. The writing is pretty good and entertaining, and if you are looking for a good beach read then you would not go wrong with this book. However, there are a few questionable plot twists and turns that have left me scratching my head. Most of the story reads like a military thriller with a former operative who had gone rogue. The intricacies of the alien reproduction are way too convoluted, and don’t directly add to the story. Nonetheless, if you are able to suspend the disbelief enough, and don’t try too hard to make sense of everything that goes on in this story, then you will probably enjoy this book well enough.
