August MR240B Bluetooth Audio Receiver for Sound Systems
This is one of the more ingenious Bluetooth receivers that I’ve tested. It allows you to turn any of your older audio systems into a receiver for your smartphone music. It also features the old Apple 30-pin connector, which makes it as an ideal bridge between your older i-devices and the specialized music equipment for them.
The receiver is very easy to pair – just plug it in and connect to it from your smartphone’s settings menu. I’ve been able to connect to it with an iPhone and an Android phone. The receiver comes with a regular phones jack cable as well as a component audio cable. It should in principle be able to connect to any regular audio system.
The sound quality will depend on several factors, including the bit encoding of the music that you listen to and the quality of the speakers that you use. One of the big limiting factors will be the Bluetooth connectivity. No Bluetooth receiver/streamer will be able to transmit the highest encoded music files, so if you are a persnickety audiophile this might not be the way for you to enjoy your music. For everyone else, however, this receiver will be more than adequate.
