V-Blade 810 Electric RC Helicopter

Screen Shot 2014-08-29 at 4.00.41 PMI’ve been wanting to buy an RC helicopter for years, and I have finally recently started getting more into these fun flying toys. There are many options available out there, and you should really educate yourself as much as possible about what RC helicopters are all about. They are not as simple to use properly as most other RC toys.

I’ve been hearing the horror stories about how hard it is to fly one of these RC helicopters. Sure enough, it took me a long while before I was able to get even a decent grip on this machine.

The helicopter overall seems to be well built. The same holds for the remote control, although it looks and feels like it has been copied from some more sophisticated model with many more features.

The helicopter has a rechargeable battery that needs to be charged through a specialized little USB cable. Fully charging it takes about an hour, and gives you between five and ten minutes of flying time.

I primarily flew this helicopter outdoors. This made things extra hard since even a slightest breeze would veer it far off course. I ended up with countless crash landings, but thankfully grass in my back yard is thick and soft, so each time there was a minimal amount of damage. Hitting some hard objects did leave its mark on the blades, and they gradually started wearing off. Nonetheless, even with partially damaged blades it was still possible to fly this helicopter with just minor hinderances. The helicopter comes with an extra set of replacement blades, as well as a small screwdriver that allows you to replace them on your own.

Unfortunately, eventually after one too many hard bumps the helicopter lost much of its ability to remain stable in flight. This seems to be something that could be relatively easily fixed with some screw tightenings here and there, but I have no information that could help me with it. So after a few weeks of use, this helicopter seems to be pretty much broken.

So why do I still give this product relatively high four stars? Because, honestly, I did have a lot of fun flying this thing around. It taught me a thing or two about controlling an RC helicopter, and my guess is that these experiences will be really valuable with my next such toy. I think this is a great learning RC helicopter, and at its incredibly low cost of about $20 it feels like its a worthwhile learning investment.
