TaoTronics Elune TT-DL04 LED Gooseneck Desk Lamp

Screen Shot 2014-08-11 at 1.42.50 PMSince most of my work is done at the desk, I am a big user of desk lights. Until now I was a big fan of halogen lights since they gave me the most intense and concentrated light. However, they have a whole host of issues: they get really hot, and their light bulbs tend to be really hard to replace. Since the LED lighting has come a long way in recent years, I was ready to try it out with my desk lights. So far I have been pretty impressed. Here are some of my impressions of this TaoTronics desk lamp.

**** Pros ****

– Decent amount of light. I have completely replaced my old halogen desk lamp with this one. Works fine for my main purpose while at my work desk – writing reviews such as this one.

– Neat and elegant design. The lamp looks very contemporary and stylish. Fits well in most modern office environments.

– Convenient dimmer provides for very easily adjustable brightness. I usually like my desk lamps to be as bright as possible, so this feature is not a major plus for me, but I can see how it would be helpful for many others.

– No major source of heat. LED lights are very cool to operate.

– Low price. Since the LED lights use much less power than the conventional lightbulbs, they are much cheaper to operate. This desk light could easily pay for itself after a few months to a year of operation.

– Flexible neck. It’s pretty easy to adjust this desk lamp so it is angled exactly as you would like.

– Internal battery. It’s possible to fully charge this lamp’s battery and use it away from your desk.

– Detachable head. Thanks to the internal battery, you can detach this lamp’s head and take it with you anywhere, even on a camping trip.

– USB charger in the base. You can use this lamp as a convenient access point for charging all of your USB-cable powered devices.

**** Cons ****

– The LED light quality can feel a bit cold and uninviting. This is not a major issue for me for desk lights, but in general I prefer light bulbs with much more “warm” look and feel.

– No way to replace the lightbulbs. LED lights are expected to last a really long time, so this might not be an issue for the most users. Still, it would be nice to be able to replace the lamps with the ones which suit your lighting preferences better.

– No way of charging this lamp away from its base. It would be convenient if the lamp head itself had an easy way of being charged, via another USB outlet for instance.
