Rocketek USB 3.0 SATA Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5 / 3.5 inch HDD, SSD
Over the years I’ve used several different internal hard drives. Every once in a while I need to access them directly from a different computer from the one that they had been installed on. In the past I’ve used various sets of cables and adapters, all of which have been a rather inelegant solution for this task. Rockatek 1 bay SATA HDD Docking station, on the other hand, proved an almost ideal setup for such tasks. I used it to access and fix several internal 3.5” HDDs from my malfunctioning Windows server. I was able to fix the partitions effortlessly, and transfer and burn several files and directories onto the DVD rom.
This docking station is meant to be used with the USB 3 cables and docks, but it’s also backward compatible with the USB standard. The docking station comes with an external power supply, so it should in principle work with any standard USB port. I’ve tested it with two different Western Digital HDDs – one was 1 TB and the other was 500 GB. I was able to use it with both Mac and PC computers. I did not try to benchmark the file transfer rates, but they seem to be in comparable to the other USB 3 external storage systems that I’ve used.
The docking station seems well made and durable. It was physically extremely easy to insert and take out the HDDs.
I would strongly recommend this docking station to any IT professionals or presumes, as well as to anyone who needs to archive and access large amount of files on a not-too-frequent basis.
