Escolite 46 led waterproof solar motion sensor light

Screen Shot 2015-04-29 at 11.23.19 AMThis is exactly the kind of light that I needed for my back house entrance. Our neighborhood is not very well lit, and this lack of lighting is especially pronounced in our back yard. Sometimes I need to go out in the back yard for a quick errand late at night, and instead of turning on the big bright outdoors light I can now just rely on this little guy’s motion detection sensor to turn on the light just for as long as I need it.

The light was a bit tricky to install. It requires you to screw in two large (wooden) screws in order to attach the base. The base by itself will allow you to attach the light to it, but this is not a permanent attachment. this configuration has its advantages, but I prefer to have the light be permanently and securely attached. Fortunately there are a couple more screws included with the set that allow you to do just that. Unfortunately, the included setup instructions are not well written and can confuse you as much as enlighten you. I ended up not using them at all.

The light provides just enough light when there is someone moving around, and stays off otherwise. It fits very nicely right above my back yard door. Since it’s a solar light there is need to run all sorts of wiring and cables. The light absorbs solar energy during the day, and it turns itself on automatically after dark. I was actually really surprised how much light it emits. I have several other solar lights around my house, and this one is one of the brightest. I am not too thrilled with the quality of its emitted light though. It is very sterile and cold, and it reminds me of hospital lighting. It is nonetheless a very useful light to have.

The light is primarily made out of solid aluminum and feels pretty sturdy. So far it seems durable and waterproof. I’ve used it for a bout a week, and have only had the best of an experience with it. If anything changes in that regard I’ll make sure to post an update.
